HEY ROCCO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “MOM JEANS”;
PLUS XFM SESSION AND DEBUT UK TOUR

HEYROCCO

ASKME -singles-button-small SINGLE – Mom Jeans
LABEL – Vital Music
IMPACT DATE – 27th October 2014

HEYROCCO‘s songs cut to the heart of teenage thrills: young love, long summer days, and the little details that trigger all that emotion.

Their new single Mom Jeans encapsulates all of that – and it’s a perfect example of HEYROCCO’s brilliant balance of dark rock, short ‘n’ sweet pop tunes and young, breathless excitement.

It’s the follow-up to previous single Virgin – which was Kerrang! Track of the Week. Mom Jeans has won them radio recognition, too – they will be recording an Xfm X-posure session for tastemaker John Kennedy at the end of October as they complete their debut UK tour.

HEYROCCO are thrilling fans around the country right now, with sold out shows and a huge audience at London’s KOKO kicking off their first UK jaunt.

“…the angst-ridden grunge of Nirvana, while flecks of Pavement ensure a distinctly nostalgic flavour to these young guitar heroes.” – NME

“You know those perfect songs that soundtrack your summer of late nights, romance and hedonism? Well, HEYROCCO have just dropped one.” – Gigwise

Heyrocco’s new single launches us right into 90’s teenage movie nostalgia. Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” – NYLON

“… a darkly nostalgic vibe – worthy of, say, Radiohead’s much neglected ‘Pablo Honey’ full length.” – CLASH

THE MINX’S NEW VIDEO DEBUTED ON LOUDER THAN WAR

The Minx are rocketing towards the launch of their new single, No Friends, and are clocking up some exceptional supporters of the brilliant power-pop song en route: Gary Crowley, John Kennedy, BBC Introducing – and repeated support from one of the world’s main punk sites: Louder Than War.

A strong supporter of The Minx since they began, Louder Than War have excitedly backed them as “the best new band in Manchester”, and were the perfect place for The Minx to launch their new video.

No Friends‘ video is a tone-perfect accompaniment to this bounciest of punk-pop songs: colourful, irreverent and – most of all – a ton of fun.

The band’s biggest headline show yet, at Ruby Lounge in Manchester on Saturday 23rd August, is set to be yet another sell-out for a band whose fanbase can’t get enough of their boisterous gigs!

HEYROCCO FOLLOW ACCLAIMED FIRST SINGLE WITH “MELT”

LABEL: Vital Music Group
IMPACT DATE: 1st Sept 2014

After their first free download, Virgin, sped to tens of thousands of plays via word-of-mouth in just a couple of weeks, HEYROCCO are stepping straight back into their new fans’ affections with their new single, Melt.

It’s another grungy and immediately catchy pop song from the South Carolina boys; it’s a wry song on a subject that… well, let’s say it’s one that many teenagers will have prematurely experienced.

And just as Virgin drew many flattering comparisons with rock giants of the early 90s – Melt shows off their ability to straddle the line between the twin thrills of killer melodies and fuzzy guitars.

Melt has been met with breathless praise from highly-respected sources:

“You know those perfect songs that soundtrack your summer of late nights, romance and hedonism? Well, HEYROCCO have just dropped one.” Gigwise

“Heyrocco’s new single launches us right into 90’s teenage movie nostalgia. Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” NYLON

HEYROCCO have the tunes, poise and musical chops to back up their sky-high ambition.

SOUTH CAROLINA’S HEYROCCO HAVE DEBUT SINGLE “VIRGIN” BACKED BY BOTH XFM’S JOHN KENNEDY & CLASH MAGAZINE

johnkennedy_Clash_HEYROCCO Two of the UK’s most renowned spotters of new talent, Xfm’s John Kennedy and Clash Magazine, have recognised HEYROCCO’s enormous potential and knack for writing huge, exciting rock songs.

John has made their new single, Virgin, the Xfm X-posure Big One, and Clash has premiered the single’s video.

The Xfm honour follows John’s debut play of the track, and the Clash article spots some sharp, positive comparisons with Radiohead’s debut release.

It’s just another sign that HEYROCCO are not merely another band – but ones to watch closely.

YOU STRONGLY TIPPED IN NME & SELECTED AS XFM’S XPOSURE TRACK OF THE WEEK BY JOHN KENNEDY!

YOU-NME

YOU have gained two enormous and influential backers in one day in the shape of both the NME and Xfm‘s John Kennedy!

The bands’ heads must be spinning a bit – first they opened this week‘s NME Radar section to discover that they have been given primary billing of new artists to watch.

The NME loved YOU’s ‘baroque pop’, praised the band’s coiling arrangements and were won over by singer Anna’s ‘otherworldly coo.’

If that wasn’t enough, they then turned on Xfm to hear that new single In Halves has been selected by enormously-respected DJ John Kennedy as his X-Posure Big One – which means they’ll be played on his Xfm show every day this week!

johnkennedy

John has been comprehensively won over by YOU, saying on his show, “I played it for the first time on Thursday. It’s been haunting me ever since…” and then tweeted, “Love the track! Playing it every single night this week!”

Whatever next? Well, maybe enviable coverage like this should be expected, having followed on from being tipped by other notable spotters of talent, Tom Robinson and Simon Raymonde.

Ask Me PR’s Joe Sparrow nominated for prestigious AIM “Indie Champion” award alongside Lauren Laverne, John Kennedy, Giles Peterson…

Joe SparrowWe’re hugely excited to report that Ask Me’s Joe Sparrow has been nominated for a highly prestigious AIM Award in the “Indie Champion” category – alongside music industry luminaries like Lauren Laverne, John Kennedy and Gilles Peterson!

Joe’s been given a well-deserved nod as recognition for his long-standing devotion to unearthing and showcasing new music on his blog A New Band A Day.

The blog has been running for over five years; catching the attention of the music industry by showcasing well over a thousand brand-new, unusual and very independent bands culled from the less-frequented corners of the internet.

Whilst some of the bands have gone on to huge success (he wrote about the then-fledgling Rizzle Kicks when they were still at college), most stay relatively unknown: but Joe says he’s happy with this – and that it’s kind of the point.

“I started A New Band A Day because I missed the rough-round-the-edge songs that I only really used to hear on John Peel’s show… the ones where you could hear the tape hiss and the squeak of the guitarist’s chair; or some obscure deep house track from Paraguay.

“So I set about finding them for myself and sharing them online… I never wanted to find the next big thing (and I didn’t either) and I never really thought about where doing this might take me!

“However, I’ve done things I never thought would do as a result – I lived in NYC for a few months, popped up on BBC 6 Music, experienced the madness of SXSW – but most importantly I have met so many fabulous people who I now count as best friends.

“In five years, I’ve dug up so many bands that thinking about it makes me feel a bit sick – but I can remember all of them, even if all the names are starting to blur into one (possibly vowel-less) mega-band-name now!”

We’re thrilled that Joe’s hard work and ear-to-the-ground knowledge has been rewarded with this kind of high-profile recognition; it’s the reason why we asked him to join Ask Me PR in the first place!

The full list of Indie Champion nominees is below, and the winners will be announced at the ceremony in London on 3rd September 2013.

Good luck Joe!

‘Lights Of London is the second single by 22 yrd old singer-songwriter/producer Jack Robert Hardman through Pleasant Pursuits / Essential Music.

Packed full of pulsating rhythms and intricate melody lines, ‘Lights of London’ tells the tale of a relentless desire to reach the bright lights of the big city. Fusing Hardman’s distinctive vocals and trademark production style, the song paints a dreamy picture of life in London, looking from the outside in.
