Cavalry

Liverpool five-piece Cavalry have crafted a sound that confidently melds together a mixture of classic and contemporary musical influence, from Paul Simon to The National, Fleetwood Mac to Villagers, The Beatles to Bon Iver.

Since they formed, the band’s music has quickly caught the attention of established and influential musicians, seeing them take on live support slots for British Sea Power, The Antlers and Steve Malkmus.

BBC Merseyside’s Dave Monks and BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens featured the band as a discovery on ‘BBC Introducing’, with Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music and Janice Long of Radio 2 both eagerly playing their early tracks.

It’s hard to believe Cavalry have achieved so much in so short a time, with just two online tracks and a handful of live shows under their belts, but their music strikes a deep chord on first listen.

Leaves’ has all the dreamy insistence of a long-lost Grant Lee Buffalo gem, while ‘Lament’ hints at the understated anthemic pull of Band Of Horses at their best.

With national radio eager to playlist the band, they will release their first official single, ‘An Understanding’, later this year. Fingers crossed for an appearance at Glastonbury Festival too – the band are currently longlisted for a slot.

Cavalry are Alan Croft on lead vocals, Austin Logan on guitar, Paul Jones on bass, Steven Taylor on guitar and Gareth Dawson on drums.

BBC RADIO 1’S HUW STEPHENS PICKS MDNGHT TO KICK OFF HIS “BEST OF BBC INTRODUCING” MIXTAPE

MDNGHTRADIO1

MDNGHT are no stranger to praise from the UK’s biggest pop music station: they were picked as BBC Introducing Radio 1 Artist of the Week, have been played on all the huge daytime shows and also wowed the crowd at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.

Radio 1’s Huw Stephens is one of the UK’s most respected music tastemakers and is a long-term supporter of the band.

So when he was asked to put together a playlist of the “Best Of BBC Introducing” for Radio 1, he chose MDNGHT’s summertime smash “Into The Night” to kick the whole thing off – and it sounds as fresh as ever.

2014 was a breakthrough year for the Manchester four-piece, taking in a UK tour, an extended stay in the Upfront Club Chart and a buzz-worthy stint on the Hype Machine charts.

And they’re desperate to get their songs out – both to their expectant fans and to win over new ones too. They dropped in on BBC Introducing Manchester for a chat and to showcase a new, utterly euphoric song live in the studio:

Said Michelle, “It’s really nice to have an uplifting pop song in session… sometimes it can all be a bit serious and cool – I just want to go out and dance now!”

Singer Will agreed that this was exactly what they’re aiming for: “We just want to play happy music – good vibes and good times!”

With songs like that – and an album full of them to follow – plenty more people are going to agree…

ASKME -singles-button-small

IMPACT DATE: TBC
LABEL: MUK Records

MDNGHT‘s star keeps rising at a dizzy pace. Having played to an excited crowd at Radio 1′s Big Weekend – getting them to their feet and partying to their new single Breeze – enthusiastic support then followed from both TIME magazine and The Guardian.

Breeze is MDNGHT at their lithe best, melding contemporary dance and shimmering house with a glossy, sweet falsetto: encapsulating the euphoria of a late-summer sunset party – making this single a perfect post-holiday soundtrack.

Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens was won over by their performance, recognising MDNGHT’s dancefloor potential: “This’ll get the whole place bouncing… sounding wonderful!”

And TIME magazine, who premiered the video, enthusiastically noted Breeze’s, “flecks of guitar, piano stabs and wall-of-sound background vocals gathering around Jordan Lewin’s breathy falsetto,” confirming that the USA is just as receptive to MDNGHT’s “drifty, tropical dance music.”

Meanwhile, The Guardian – covering MDNGHT for the third time – praised Breeze‘s joyous pop appeal: “the uplifting chorus… is a brilliant way of making you fling your hands in the air.”

It’s the perfect follow-up to previous single, Into The Night, which hit the UK Club Chart top ten and was BBC Introducing Single of the Week on both Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

MDNGHT have been played all across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra: Fearne Cotton, Greg James, Scott Mills, Huw Stephens, Gemma Cairney, DJ Target, Sarah Jane Crawford, MistaJam, Trevor Nelson, Dev, Yasmin Evans, Twin B, and Adele Roberts.

Sultry, warm and addictive: this is a song that harnesses warm grooves, house beats and a bright, sunny hook – and MDNGHT will be winning over more new fans via a series of UK-wide late-summer gigs.

Time Out praised MDNGHT’s “obvious chart ambition” and loved their “dreamy, funky house-pop” so much they made their 8th August gig at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen their East London gig of the week.

The Minx are rocketing towards the launch of their new single, No Friends, and are clocking up some exceptional supporters of the brilliant power-pop song en route: Gary Crowley, John Kennedy, BBC Introducing – and repeated support from one of the world’s main punk sites: Louder Than War.

Following strong radio play support from BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra – and previous formidable online support from Idolator, Popjustice and The Guardian – MDNGHT have another huge feather to squeeze into their cap in the form of an international video exclusive on TIME Magazine‘s website.

Time enthusiastically noted Breeze’s, “flecks of guitar, piano stabs and wall-of-sound background vocals gathering around Jordan Lewin’s breathy falsetto,” confirming that the USA is just as receptive to MDNGHT’s “drifty, tropical dance music.”

The video to their previous single, Into The Night, snagged a whopping 140,000 views in the first week – and after TIME’s huge boost, the Breeze video is now also available to watch online via VEVO.

Following the wide praise of their debut single Josef, which grabbed the attention of the Huffington Post, the Daily Mirror, Yahoo OMG, and Digital Spy, BERLIN BERLIN return with another sky-scraping single, Be Here.

A glorious paean to faith, devotion and love, Be Here is another huge indicator of the band’s ability to write stadium-sized, heartfelt pop – and shows why the band were quickly invited by Google to shoot a video session in London for the internet giants.

The video from the session will be published on the week of the single’s release.

Be Here is backed by a transformative, shimmering rework of Furniture‘s 1986 classic Brilliant Mind. It’s simply a must-listen, and the band performed it live in the BBC Introducing Manchester studio for 6 Music’s Elizabeth Alker, who said it sounded “spectacular.

BERLIN BERLIN’s mantra is ‘dark beauty on epic scale’, and their sound is immediate, vast and driven, combining brooding 80s/90s electronica with contemporary rhythms – to fashion something truly vast, life-affirming and euphoric.

MUK RECORDS’ CLEAN SWEEP ON BBC INTRODUCING MANCHESTER!

alker

Yet more confirmation that the waves being made by Manchester’s MUK Records are having a bigger impact and wider reach; as four of their incredibly diverse signings were played on BBC Introducing Manchester by BBC 6 Music’s Elizabeth Alker.

Berlin BerlinMUK’s purveyors of euphoric, stadium-sized pop were also in the studio – talking extensively before playing a fabulously glossy live cover version of Furniture’s cult classic Brilliant Mind, which Elizabeth described as sounding “absolutely wonderful – spectacular!”

She was no less impressed by the other MUK artists on the playlist: identifying Red Sky Noise‘s eclectic and powerful sound as “dance-y, jazzy, soulful… an absolute joy… ones to keep an eye on!” – and favourably compared singer Mica’s vocals to Emili Sandé.

Meanwhile, MDNGHT‘s ability to deftly recreate the feel of a sultry summer night’s party in their music was spotted – “perfect for a Saturday night,” whilst Bird To Beast‘s growing musical renown was just as clear: “lovely and pastoral – they know how to do harmonies!”

  • BERLIN BERLIN’s Brilliant Mind cover is the B-side to their fabulous new single, Be Here – Impact Date 17th November.
  • MDNGHT will be performing at this year’s Manchester Pride.
  • Red Sky Noise‘s video for their huge, soulful Only You has soared to over 20,000 views on Youtube.
