Hotly-tipped Manchester collective Red Sky Noise have released the video for their forthcoming single, Only You (Darkness Inside), ahead of its 23rd June impact date.

Just like the song it accompanies, the video is powerful and emotive, depicting family strife, urban life and escapism; showcasing Red Sky Noise‘s bassy, brassy sound, soulful vocals and gritty hooks.

And this isn’t the only attention-grabbing piece of news from the Red Sky Noise camp: another of the bands’ songs, She Don’t Know, has been chosen by EA Games to feature on their multi-million-selling hit video game NHL 2015.

They’re a band on the up – with international appeal – keep a keen eye out for Red Sky Noise in the coming months!

SINGLE – Catacombs
IMPACT DATE –  June 2014
LABEL – MUK Records

Q: What links The Hollies’ Bobby Elliot and Bird to Beast’s Sam and Hannah Hird?
A: Bird to Beast‘s new single, Catacombs – and the Lancashire mill-town of Colne…

After a breakthrough start to 2014, Bird To Beast deliver another wonderfully infectious song, Catacombs. And it marks them as songwriters of real note, showcasing an ear for the enticingly odd and attractively dreamy.

Catacombs is not only Bird To Beast’s most lovely and touching single yet, but it also features shuffling percussion from Hollies drummer Bobby Elliott.

The song got its first radio play on Radcliffe and Maconie‘s BBC 6 Music show – with Mark enthusing about the song – and was particularly impressed that Bobby was playing on the track.

Bobby lives in the same Lancashire town of Colne as Sam and Hannah, and after meeting the band – and being wooed by their inventive sound – got involved.

Catacombs is a fabulous single, drawing listeners in with sweetly cooing vocals on love and life, and a coiling, surprising melody, mixing a gorgeous lullaby with rumbustious excitement.

The single is backed with live favourite Posture and Pantomime as a B-side.

Its release follows a whirlwind few months for Bird To Beast, seeing them gaining wonderful UK radio support – including Steve Lamacq, Marc Riley, Chris Hawkins, Radcliffe & Maconie, Alex Lester, Tom Robinson, Michelle Hussey, Ruth Barnes, Sean McGinty, Emma Mac and Shell Zenners shows – as well as playing a bunch of well-received gigs, and will be gracing a whole array of festival stages in the coming months.

They’re seemingly fully-formed; emerging suddenly with a pristine, spine-tingling song and a breathtaking video.

Where on earth have YOU come from?

And, with In Halves, the band is armed with a video to dazzle eyes, and a pristine, shiver-inducing song, pricked by singer Anna Waldmann’s pin-sharp voice.

So where on earth have YOU come from? Well, north London – but by the way of The Cocteau Twins, London Grammar, The XX and Daughter.

It’s a dazzling and confident first step for the North London band, whose early demos caught the keen ears of tastemakers Simon Raymonde and 6 Music’s Tom Robinson last year, before signing to Manchester’s MUK Records.

“One of the best debut singles I’ve heard in my time!” – Gary Crowley on In Halves

A beautiful, unique voice; a coiling, half-dream of a single; a video hinting at end times. What’s not to love?

SPACE release new single “Fortune Teller”; Announce New LP and 20th Anniversary

spacefortuneteller900ASKME -singles-button-smallIMPACT DATE: 3rd March 2014

90’s favourites Space are back, armed with a new single, album and UK tour with Republica to coincide with the band’s 20th anniversary.

Writing top oddball pop songs is no easy feat, but it’s something Space have been doing for two decades. Fortune Teller is their first single in a decade, and their signature quirky, up-beat pop is a welcome breath of fresh air.

“I’m keeping up with the mystic vibe!” says frontman Tommy Scott, who can’t wait to get back on the road and play the hits – and the new tracks –  to their many fans:

“When we tour, we love playing the old stuff, but I always knew I wanted to record some new material. We know the fans like to hear the old classics from our multi-million selling albums ‘Spiders’ and ‘Tin Planet’, but we wanted to give them something extra.”

The platinum selling band came to prominence in the mid-90’s with hit singles such as Female of the Species, Neighbourhood, Me and You Versus the World and The Ballad of Tom Jones.

Space reformed in December 2011 for a special one-off hometown show at the O2 Academy.

The show sold out in double-quick time and the response so positive that they decided to get back in the studio… and they’ve teamed up with fellow 90’s million-sellers Republica for a UK tour in March to coincide with the new single.

Says Tommy:

“It will be great to see all of the loyal Space fans who have supported us for years, and we’ve also noticed that we have a lot of younger fans out there who are just getting into our music.”

20th Anniversary tour with Republica:

Tue March 18th 2014 – GLASGOW King Tuts
Wed March 19th 2014 – NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE O2 Academy Newcastle
Thu March 20th 2014 – MANCHESTER Academy
Fri March 21st 2014 – LIVERPOOL O2 Academy Liverpool
Sat March 22nd 2014 – COVENTRY Kasbah
Sun March 23rd 2014 – LONDON O2 Academy Islington

It’s a song that has grabbed repeated plays from BBC Radio 2‘s folk mainstay Bob Harris, who counts himself as a “big fan” as a result of The Land Witch‘s gleaming alt-folk pop charm.

He’s not the only one – a long, illustrious list of national DJs have backed the band again and again over the last 12 months, including Huw Stephens, Tom Robinson, Jen Long & Ally McCrae, Dermot O’Leary, Gideon Coe, Chris Hawkins, Gary Crowley and nabbing a record of the week slot on BBC Alba’s RAPAL show.

It’s the final single taken from their enthusiastically-reviewed Black Bank LP, and is accompanied by a smart and slightly tongue-in-cheek spooky video.

If 2013 was a year of huge progress and breakthrough for the Cambridgeshire band, then their ambitions for 2014 are even greater – and who could fail to be won over by a band with such talent and glorious melodies?

Silverclub Spin The Minx’s (Can You Find) My Head? With Dizzying Remix

silverclubSilverclub make a habit of contorting sounds, mashing genres and questioning preconceptions, and they’ve woven a dreamy and bewilderingly colourful remix from The Minx‘s buzzy power-pop.

The transformation of (Can You Find) My Head?‘s boisterous, lark-a-minute guitar-pop into a controlled, somnambulistic, dizzy house workout.

Meanwhile, The Minx are on the verge of selling out yet another key venue in Manchester – with just a few tickets remaining for their Saturday 7th December show at Sound Control.

Red Sky Noise

Red Sky Noise’s sky-scraping – and fiercely dancefloor-driven – assimilation of contemporary bass music, 90’s dance and classic soul always threatened to grab wider attention – and so it has proven!

The innovative Manchester four-piece are about to bring their genre-fusing sound to a voracious audience on national BBC radio, having been selected as 1Xtra’s BBC Introducing Single Of The Week.

Their bass-driven sound, mixing live and programmed instrumentation, is the kind of multi-faceted dance music that sounds unmistakably modern and undeniably massive – and it should find a perfect home on the UK’s premier urban radio station.

Red Sky Noise have been added to the 1Xtra playlist for the week beginning Monday 18th November, and Only You will be played across 1Xtra’s daytime shows:

Monday – Twin B (7am – 10am)
Tuesday – Sarah Jane Crawford (1pm – 4pm)
Wednesday – MistaJam (7pm – 10pm)
Thursday – Trevor Nelson (10am – 1pm)
Saturday – Yasmin Evans (7am – 10am)
Saturday – DJ Target (4pm – 7pm)
Sunday – Adele Roberts (1am – 4pm)

This is something of a repeated coup for Manchester’s MUK Records, whose artist MDNGHT was also recently selected for the BBC Introducing playlist slot on both 1Xtra and Radio 1.

Only You is available on iTunes to pre-order now.

Bird To Beast Release New Double-A Single – Elephant & Winter Snow

ASKME -singles-button-smallIMPACT DATE: 24th March 2014
LABEL: MUK Records

Bird To Beast – AKA recently married couple Sam and Hannah Hird – continue to bewitch listeners with two more gorgeous, off-kilter psyche-folk pop songs – Elephant and Winter Snow – on their new double A-side release.

Elephant is an example of their uncanny ability to spin magic from the sounds of yesteryear and to create fresh, unique and infectious songs, twisting doo-wop into a sprightly folk song.

Winter Snow, on the other hand, is a beautiful, crystal-pure, frosted-over love song that slowly glows and warms as it comes in from the cold.

They recently played gigs in London and Manchester, hooking attention with sheer force of talent – cramming one gloriously unique moment after another into each of their folk-pop songs.

Armed with an album brimming with songs full of love and wonder, Bird To Beast‘s songs wheedle their way into the memory; rewarding more with every listen.

“Suggesting Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys and Rufus Wainwright at his most beautifully opulent, theirs is a flowing psych-pop folk hybrid that overflows with prettiness, engulfing the listener in rapture” – MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS

“I love this – so I’m going to play an album track from Bird to Beasts’ debut album” – STEVE LAMACQ, BBC6 MUSIC

“Daniel’s melody and lyrics are beautiful, and the phrase “Daniel get out of love” has stuck with me ever since” – ALBUM OF THE WEEK, 1883 MAGAZINE

Who are Bird To Beast?

Bird to Beast is the brainchild of Sam and Hannah Hird. The duo both grew up in the Lancashire mill town of Colne, and met at the town’s annual Blues festival.

They fell in love through music, before deciding to start writing together and formed Bird To Beast.

Sam is an ex-sheep farmer who immersed himself in classical music from a tender age. Hannah has sung backing vocals for Ellie Goulding and at William and Kate’s Royal Wedding reception.

Their self-titled debut album was released via MUK Records on October 14th 2013.
