BBC RADIO 1’S HUW STEPHENS PICKS MDNGHT TO KICK OFF HIS “BEST OF BBC INTRODUCING” MIXTAPE

MDNGHTRADIO1

MDNGHT are no stranger to praise from the UK’s biggest pop music station: they were picked as BBC Introducing Radio 1 Artist of the Week, have been played on all the huge daytime shows and also wowed the crowd at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.

Radio 1’s Huw Stephens is one of the UK’s most respected music tastemakers and is a long-term supporter of the band.

So when he was asked to put together a playlist of the “Best Of BBC Introducing” for Radio 1, he chose MDNGHT’s summertime smash “Into The Night” to kick the whole thing off – and it sounds as fresh as ever.

2014 was a breakthrough year for the Manchester four-piece, taking in a UK tour, an extended stay in the Upfront Club Chart and a buzz-worthy stint on the Hype Machine charts.

TONTARIO & SAXOKID’S REMIX OF MDNGHT’S “BREEZE” SHOOTS UP HYPE MACHINE CHART

Up-and-coming Finnish producer Tontario has collaborated with saxophonist SaxoKid to produce a MDNGHT remix that’s had an Earmilk premiere and a bunch of other top blogs excited too.

Reaction from listeners has been fantastic – the track has quickly dashed up the Hype Machine chart!

Tontario takes Breeze‘s euphoric house sounds and welds to it SaxoKid’s deep sax grooves with the lightness of touch that is fast becoming his calling card.

It’s a fabulous refresh of MDNGHT’s sun-soaked song, and will drag you right back to summertime!

IMG_4163_1000px

HEYROCCO came, saw and conquered on their first trip to the UK!

Not only did they play to a packed KOKO in London at the start of their debut tour – a tour that saw them playing to more sold-out venues around the UK – but they rounded it off with a return to the capital, and a session for the premier new music show on Xfm.

The session will be broadcast on 4th November 2014!

Looking every inch the rock stars that they look set to become, the HEYROCCO arrived for their Xfm X-posure session excited to meet key DJ John Kennedy, and as expected, they delivered a fabulous session.

John, who’s always a reliable musical weathervane of new talent, was hugely complimentary and supportive. We can’t wait to hear the session when it’s broadcast on 4th November!

MDNGHT SHOOT TO NUMBER 3 ON MUSIC WEEK’S UPFRONT CLUB CHART, BEHIND CALVIN HARRIS AND BREACH!

MDNGHT_MW_Chart

Even more fantastic news for Manchester four-piece MDNGHT’s Breeze: it’s shot to Number 3 on the Music Week Upfront Club Chart!

MDNGHT_J_BandW_1000px

They’ve steadily climbed the chart in the last couple of weeks, and have now nudged up behind Calvin Harris feat. John Newman‘s Blame and Breach feat. Kelis‘ The Key – proving MDNGHT’s floor-filling, euphoric house-pop can mix it with the big hitters.

The response from club DJs has been outstanding, with a third of DJs giving the tune a score of 90-100%, and nearly half of them marking it 80-90%.

They’ve been getting huge positive responses from dancefloors too: they’ve played a series of huge gigs around the country, playing to enormous student audiences in Bath (below), London and more.

MDNGHT are a classy, talented group with a bunch of heavyweight songs – and it’s great to see word spread so fast and so enthusiastically!

HEY ROCCO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “MOM JEANS”;
PLUS XFM SESSION AND DEBUT UK TOUR

HEYROCCO

ASKME -singles-button-small SINGLE – Mom Jeans
LABEL – Vital Music
IMPACT DATE – 27th October 2014

HEYROCCO‘s songs cut to the heart of teenage thrills: young love, long summer days, and the little details that trigger all that emotion.

Their new single Mom Jeans encapsulates all of that – and it’s a perfect example of HEYROCCO’s brilliant balance of dark rock, short ‘n’ sweet pop tunes and young, breathless excitement.

It’s the follow-up to previous single Virgin – which was Kerrang! Track of the Week. Mom Jeans has won them radio recognition, too – they will be recording an Xfm X-posure session for tastemaker John Kennedy at the end of October as they complete their debut UK tour.

HEYROCCO are thrilling fans around the country right now, with sold out shows and a huge audience at London’s KOKO kicking off their first UK jaunt.

“…the angst-ridden grunge of Nirvana, while flecks of Pavement ensure a distinctly nostalgic flavour to these young guitar heroes.” – NME

“You know those perfect songs that soundtrack your summer of late nights, romance and hedonism? Well, HEYROCCO have just dropped one.” – Gigwise

Heyrocco’s new single launches us right into 90’s teenage movie nostalgia. Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” – NYLON

“… a darkly nostalgic vibe – worthy of, say, Radiohead’s much neglected ‘Pablo Honey’ full length.” – CLASH

WHITE ESKIMO PREMIERE NEW SONG “TURN IT UP” ON BBC INTRODUCING MANCHESTER

WhiteEskimo

White Eskimo have grabbed themselves the perfect relationship: a huge, excited online following, and a string of fantastic, upbeat pop songs to thrill them with.

And they’re desperate to get their songs out – both to their expectant fans and to win over new ones too. They dropped in on BBC Introducing Manchester for a chat and to showcase a new, utterly euphoric song live in the studio:

White Eskimo unafraid to showcase their love of a pop tune – and both Natalie and Michelle from BBC Introducing commented on what an uplifting, instantly catchy pop song it is.

Said Michelle, “It’s really nice to have an uplifting pop song in session… sometimes it can all be a bit serious and cool – I just want to go out and dance now!”

Singer Will agreed that this was exactly what they’re aiming for: “We just want to play happy music – good vibes and good times!”

With songs like that – and an album full of them to follow – plenty more people are going to agree…

YOU RETURN WITH PRISTINE, BITTERSWEET “ANAESTHETIC”

YOU_chaiselongue_1000px

ASKME -singles-button-small

SINGLE – Anaesthetic
LABEL – MUK Records
IMPACT DATE – 3rd November 2014

After waves of good feeling and strong tastemaker backing for debut single, In Halves, YOU return with the woozy, cinematic and pristine Anaesthetic.

Delicate as porcelain, bittersweet as the darkest chocolate, and with echoes of Kate Bush’s airier, more soaring moments, Anaesthetic is a brilliantly confident second single. It’ll sit, icily, alongside the music of The Cocteau Twins, London Grammar, The XX and Daughter.

Anaesthetic is backed by an ingenious, touching and creepy stop-motion video by Rafael Bonilla Jnr., director of Glass Animals‘ videos. Rafael loved the song so much he personally sought out YOU with an offer to create the video.

It’s the second astonishing video in a row from YOU, and is based on cult film Toys in the Attic – about a series of malformed characters which come alive and care for each other. The idea fits the song’s tender, outsider feel perfectly.

YOU are not short of influential tippers citing them as ones to watch – the NME made them top billing on their Radar page and Tom Robinson and Simon Raymonde have backed the band from the start too.

Moreover, Xfm’s John Kennedy can’t get enough of YOU, making them Xfm’s X-posure Big One, inviting them to play his club night in London, and having them perform a live session on his Xfm show!

One of the best debut singles I’ve heard in my time!” – GARY CROWLEY, BBC Introducing
I played it for the first time on Thursday. It’s been haunting me ever since… Love the track! Playing it every single night this week!”– JOHN KENNEDY, Xfm
“They’re a strange bunch, but they leave you craving more” – NME Radar

MDNGHT SET TO RELEASE PRISTINE LATE-SUMMER SINGLE “BREEZE”

MDNGHT_May_2014

ASKME -singles-button-small

IMPACT DATE: TBC
LABEL: MUK Records

MDNGHT‘s star keeps rising at a dizzy pace. Having played to an excited crowd at Radio 1′s Big Weekend – getting them to their feet and partying to their new single Breeze – enthusiastic support then followed from both TIME magazine and The Guardian.

Breeze is MDNGHT at their lithe best, melding contemporary dance and shimmering house with a glossy, sweet falsetto: encapsulating the euphoria of a late-summer sunset party – making this single a perfect post-holiday soundtrack.

Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens was won over by their performance, recognising MDNGHT’s dancefloor potential: “This’ll get the whole place bouncing… sounding wonderful!”

And TIME magazine, who premiered the video, enthusiastically noted Breeze’s, “flecks of guitar, piano stabs and wall-of-sound background vocals gathering around Jordan Lewin’s breathy falsetto,” confirming that the USA is just as receptive to MDNGHT’s “drifty, tropical dance music.”

Meanwhile, The Guardian – covering MDNGHT for the third time – praised Breeze‘s joyous pop appeal: “the uplifting chorus… is a brilliant way of making you fling your hands in the air.”

It’s the perfect follow-up to previous single, Into The Night, which hit the UK Club Chart top ten and was BBC Introducing Single of the Week on both Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

MDNGHT have been played all across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra: Fearne Cotton, Greg James, Scott Mills, Huw Stephens, Gemma Cairney, DJ Target, Sarah Jane Crawford, MistaJam, Trevor Nelson, Dev, Yasmin Evans, Twin B, and Adele Roberts.

Sultry, warm and addictive: this is a song that harnesses warm grooves, house beats and a bright, sunny hook – and MDNGHT will be winning over more new fans via a series of UK-wide late-summer gigs.

Time Out praised MDNGHT’s “obvious chart ambition” and loved their “dreamy, funky house-pop” so much they made their 8th August gig at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen their East London gig of the week.

MDNGHT are: J (vocals), Will and Ant (guitars) and Lloyd (DJ and percussion). They signed an album deal with Manchester-based MUK Records in late 2012.

THE MINX’S NEW VIDEO DEBUTED ON LOUDER THAN WAR

The Minx are rocketing towards the launch of their new single, No Friends, and are clocking up some exceptional supporters of the brilliant power-pop song en route: Gary Crowley, John Kennedy, BBC Introducing – and repeated support from one of the world’s main punk sites: Louder Than War.

A strong supporter of The Minx since they began, Louder Than War have excitedly backed them as “the best new band in Manchester”, and were the perfect place for The Minx to launch their new video.

No Friends‘ video is a tone-perfect accompaniment to this bounciest of punk-pop songs: colourful, irreverent and – most of all – a ton of fun.

The band’s biggest headline show yet, at Ruby Lounge in Manchester on Saturday 23rd August, is set to be yet another sell-out for a band whose fanbase can’t get enough of their boisterous gigs!
